Breastfeeding Support

About the class

Breastfeeding Support

Moms are educated on the benefits of breastfeeding and are offered support at the birth and postpartum. Doulas provide immediate breastfeeding support by assisting with skin to skin bonding and breastfeeding initiation. Doulas are available to assist with lactation support 24 hours a day for two weeks postpartum and continue support as needed in the months to come.

The goals of the Doula Foundation mirror those of the American Academy of Pediatrics who regard human milk as the “preferred feeding for all infants, including premature and sick newborns, with rare exceptions”. The AAP then identifies breastfeeding as the ideal method of feeding and nurturing infants and recognizes breastfeeding as primary in achieving optimal growth and development.

We are proud to partner with the Springfield/Greene County WIC (Women, Infants & Children) Lactation Center located at 440 E. Tampa. WIC provides breastfeeding classes and lactation support.

WIC hours are Monday-Thursday 7:30am-7:00pm and Friday 7:30am-5:00pm.  Phone 417-851-1583.  After-hours lactation support: 417-838-9992.
